When Practice gets Difficult

From the Heart
Last month, we discovered that discipline quietly shapes who we become. This month, we ask a different question. What keeps us practicing after inspiration fades? There comes a point in every spiritual journey when the excitement of beginning gives way to the invitation of continuing. The meditation is no longer new. The teachings become familiar. The path asks less for enthusiasm and more for commitment. This is where many practitioners quietly discover that growth has entered a new season. Those who have made the pilgrimage to Tiger's Nest in Bhutan often remember more than the breathtaking monastery perched high on the mountainside. They remember the climb. Every step asks something of you. Your body grows tired. Your breathing becomes intentional. Your mind quietly negotiates whether to continue. It is there that the teaching, "I am not the body. I am not the thoughts," begins to move beyond words. It becomes an experience. Temporary discomfort is often the price of lasting transformation. Not because suffering is the goal. But because every meaningful expansion asks something of us. As our practice deepens, discomfort changes form. It is no longer about learning another meditation or attending another class. It becomes the willingness to release old identities, strengthen our character, remain steady through uncertainty, and continue serving while life unfolds around us. Our families still need us. Work continues. Responsibilities remain. We continue serving, caring, leading, and showing up while our inner world is quietly becoming stronger. Transformation is not separate from daily life. It happens in the middle of it. Not every season of practice feels inspiring. Some seasons simply ask us to remain. And it is often in those moments—not when the path is easy, but when we choose to continue—that we discover who we are truly becoming.
Energy Insight
The Strength to Continue Every meaningful path eventually reaches a place where commitment matters more than inspiration. This is true in every discipline, and spiritual practice is no different. There will be days when meditation feels effortless and days when simply sitting in stillness requires patience. There will be seasons of deep clarity and seasons that invite us to trust what we cannot yet see. Neither defines your progress. Growth is not measured by how inspired we feel. It is revealed by our willingness to continue. Master Choa Kok Sui taught that genuine spirituality develops strength, courage, and intelligence. These qualities are not built by avoiding challenges, but by meeting them with awareness, steadiness, and perseverance. Endurance is not about pushing through exhaustion or ignoring our limitations. It is the quiet decision to return to our practice, again and again, even when immediate results are not visible. Each meditation. Each healing session. Each act of self-discipline. Each moment we choose peace over reaction. These seemingly small decisions shape our character far more than occasional moments of inspiration. Over time, something profound begins to happen. Our practice is no longer sustained by motivation. It is sustained by purpose. We stop asking ourselves whether we feel like practicing today. Instead, our practice becomes part of the way we live. It becomes part of who we are.
Practice This Month
The Five Shaolin Commands: Command Four: Endure. Discomfort is Not Danger.
Resist the urge to measure your practice by how inspired you feel. Instead, notice what happens when you remain present, even on the days your practice feels challenging. Ask yourself: Where in my life am I tempted to stop simply because the path has become difficult? What discomfort might actually be inviting me to grow? How can I stay steady without becoming rigid? Whether you meditate for twenty minutes or two hours, offer healings weekly or daily, or simply begin each morning with an invocation, return to your practice with quiet confidence. This month is not about pushing harder. It is about staying with your practice long enough to discover what it is quietly transforming within you.

Wisdom Corner
“When meditating, do not expect something to happen. Otherwise, you are meditating on your expectation, and you are not doing the Meditation itself.” — Master Choa Kok Sui
Stillness is not the destination. It prepares us for deeper spiritual work. As our minds become quieter through regular practice, intuition becomes clearer, healing becomes more effective, and inner strength grows naturally. Discipline creates the conditions for stillness. Stillness opens the door to higher awareness.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next month, we'll continue our journey through The Five Shaolin Commands with Command Five Execute— No Hesitation. Action Completes the Command. Awareness, choice, discipline, and endurance prepare us, but transformation requires action. November’s issue explores the moment when inner work must become visible through the way we live, lead, serve, and respond. We’ll discover how clear action strengthens confidence, turns intention into experience, and allows spiritual principles to move beyond understanding and into embodiment. We look forward to sharing the next issue of The Still Point Journal with you.
